the floral pattern continues

Howdy, all!  Another low-key weekend here in Nederland, but we did get a few good photos to share.

This Saturday was the annual “Bloemencorso van de Bollenstreek” or Flower Parade over a 40 km (or about 26 mile) route through an area of The Netherlands known for the bulb fields.  The theme for this year was Bon Appetit! and the various floats and displays were decorated with millions of flowers according to that theme.

We drove about 25 minutes to the closest town where the parade was passing and found ourselves a nice little spot along the route.  The sun was shinning, and although the temp wasn’t as high as we’d like, it was an enjoyable day!  Check out the photos:

Only in The Netherlands do parades contain a child riding in a block of cheese made out of flowers.

There were lots of local kids riding their bikes at the beginning with pretty cool floral bouquets even on those.

We really didn't appreciate the crazy displays on the cars as much as we should have. How would you drive with this?

Feeling inspired after that?  We were!  So Sunday we decided to give our neglected terrace some TLC.  Here are a couple of the planters that were there before:

So we visited a nearby gardening center.  This was an insanely huge store…I have never seen so many plants/flowers/outdoor decor/indoor decor in one place.  It was overwhelming to say the least (especially since BC and I have no clue what we are doing in the gardening department).  But we were satisfied with our selections about an hour and a half later…so we returned home and I got to work!  Here’s the new an improved terrace:

We brought a few pots that were BC's grandma's with us and finally put them to use.

Now we are going to be ready to start hosting people on the patio!  Come one, come all.

In other news, I made blueberry muffins for breakfast this weekend (from a mix, let’s not get carried away)…nice reminder of home!

More importantly, a special birthday shout-out to my big bro, Dustin, who has joined BC in the “No longer in my 20’s” crew as of Sunday!  HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

I hope everyone has a great week!

Until next time,
-MK-
