have i told you lately…

Hello everyone!  It has been a while, and that’s because there is not a ton happening here the past couple of months.  This is a busy, busy time of year for the CPA in the family, so we aren’t doing a lot of traveling.

In more exciting news, however, some important persons have come to The Hague this week for the Nuclear Security Summit, including one, Barack Obama.  Check out an official photo of the world leaders in attendance using this LINK.  (How many do you recognize?)  Security has been insane all over the country and particularly here in The Hague.  There are numerous road closures in town, and BC has had to walk to work the last couple of days because of them.  Many of his coworkers and clients have been working from home.  The biggest impact on me has been the constant noise of police helicopters flying over the apartment for the last two days (and I mean constant).

This was the only photo that I took while walking near the World Forum where the event took place. I was afraid that might be frowned upon.

I thought I would otherwise just give you a photo journey of the February and March highlights around here…

We joined 12 expat friends for some go-kart racing at RACE PLANET in February.  I was happy to excuse myself from participation… (I’m too nervous of a person for these activities!)

The winter Olympics kept me highly entertained for a couple weeks while it was cold and grey outside.  And of course, you probably heard about the Dutch domination of speed skating?!  I would say there was a lot of excitement around it here!

Our friends Steve & Tillie came to visit briefly in February!  I joined them for touring around Amsterdam and The Hague.  BC was able to join on Saturday for a morning in the adorable town of Delft before they departed.

Mr. BC celebrated a birthday in March…  We primarily celebrated with food. 🙂

BC also had the opportunity this Spring to make another trip to Amsterdam to watch an Ajax ‘football’ match with his friend from work.  He has really enjoyed being able to do that from time to time…

It’s starting to look like Spring around here.  Flowers have been spotted everywhere and some have been purchased too.  We have been seeing the sun much more than usual and we are not complaining about it!

We made a couple trips to Eindhoven recently for our friend, Megan’s baby shower and then for her and Todd’s going away party the following weekend.  We are really bummed that they are leaving, but we are so happy to have had them here!  And it makes feel even more realistic that we are leaving soon as well…  Yikes!  Both events were a lot of fun, and we were glad we had a chance to attend.

It was 70 degrees that day, so we spent a little time in the sun before returning home.

And then of course, there were some random happenings as well…

These are my first pair of hand-knitted socks. I plan to make many more!

Hope you enjoyed that assorted display of activities around here! 🙂  I have been a busy, busy travel agent the last couple of weeks!  We have lots in the works for Spring travels before we head back to the States…  More excitement to come here at detoursixty3!

Of course we have been spending some late nights/early mornings staying on top of the Big 12 Championship and now March Madness basketball.  We are really proud of the Cyclones and are cheering loud from here!  Go Iowa State!

And a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my wonderful father tomorrow!!  LOVE YOU!

Until next time,
-MK-
